Kawata's NMAC Finally Posts IRS 990s on His Site

I've been informed by Wisconsin's AIDS accountability advocate Greg Milward and a post at his USA HIV about some excellent transparency news today:

There is no rationale basis for it to have taken so long for Paul Kawata, Executive Director of the National Minority AIDS Council, to post the agency’s IRS form 990′s on the NMAC website.

After weeks of silence from Kawata, a check of NMAC’s website reveals that sometime over the past few days the 990′s for the past three years have been added.

It's never been clear to me why Kawata was so adamant for years about keeping his organization's tax filings off his site. Now that he's finally on board with the transparency program, maybe he can persuade Michael Weinstein at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Lori Jean at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Center

Weinstein's AHF does not share any 990s on their site. Same goes for Jean's LA gay center, which posts zero tax filings. Let's hope Weinstein and Jean soon join the ever-expanding list of AIDS Inc and Gay Inc groups that provide transparency on their sites as part of their accountability commitment to the community.

And thank you, Greg Milward, for nudging Kawata into adopting a transparency agenda.
