Cheney's Silence; In Canada Sept 8, GOP Fundraiser Next

We've had the Chimp in Chief back in Washington for a few days now, doing his grin and giggle routine, trying to b.s. his way out of accepting responsibility for his abysmal response to the Katrina disaster and what led up to it.

And Vice President Dick Cheney is nowhere to be seen. Haven't heard him speak lately. Not a peep out of the Veep on the devastation of New Orleans.

Heck, even his web site is silent about the death and destruction on our Gulf Coast: Veep site. The guy can't get his web master to post even a cursory note of condolence and promises to the victims of Katrina. Nothing. Nada.

But you'll be pleased to learn the AP wire is reporting Cheney will soon host a fundraiser in St. Louis for GOP senator Jim Talent. Gee, that's really important at this time.

Before Cheney attends the Talent rubber chicken dinner, our wonderful Veep will be in Canada, promoting Big Oil's agenda.

Hope it's not too much trouble for him to eventually find where New Orleans used to be on the map. He might even talk about the former city and do something to help the former residents of that vanished American metropolis.

Where is Cheney vacationing this week?

U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney will make a visit to Canada in early September. His itinerary, though, isn't likely to take him near the nation's capital in Ottawa, as he plans to stick to the more familiar territory of oil-rich Alberta. Cheney's trip highlights once again the priorities of the U.S. administration. Dick will be here to size up the vaunted tar sands of Alberta which, despite still difficult and costly extraction, some tout as the world's largest reserve of hydrocarbons.

On September 8, Cheney will have a high-level “invitation-only” dinner in Calgary with western premiers Ralph Klein and Gordon Campbell, with the evening's host being none other than the “non-partisan” Fraser Institute, an influential right-wing “think-tank. ”

Cheney to host Talent fundraiser

Published Thursday, September 1, 2005
WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney will host a major fundraiser for Sen. Jim Talent in September as the Missouri Republican gears up for a challenge from Democratic state Auditor Claire McCaskill.

Talent spokesman Rich Chrismer confirmed yesterday that Cheney would host the event in St. Louis on Sept. 19.

With about $3.4 million in his war chest, Talent already holds a sizable advantage over McCaskill. That includes more than $1 million from a June event that President George W. Bush attended in St. Louis.

With the race expected to garner national attention, both candidates could beat previous records for a U.S. Senate race in Missouri, said Terry Jones, a professor at the University of Missouri-St, Loius.
